Three highly regarded broadcasters of Marlins games are eligible for the Ford C. Frick Award -- lead radio play-by-play announcer Dave Van Horne, along with Fox Sports Net's TV announcers Rich Waltz and Tommy Hutton.

Johnson hoping for deja vu vs. Braves

In his last start on Wednesday, Josh Johnson hurled a complete game against the Braves. On Monday, he'll get the opportunity to shut down Atlanta again.

A four-run cushion was sufficient Sunday for the New York Mets. Now they'll try to hang onto a lead in September. The Mets' battered bullpen came through with three shutout innings to close out a 6-2 victory over the Florida Marlins, preserving New York's one-game lead over Philadelphia in the NL East.

After first, Florida falls flat

After two first-inning runs on a Luis Gonzalez RBI double and a Mike Jacobs sacrifice fly, the Marlins could score no more and starter Scott Olsen couldn't hold the lead in a 6-2 loss to the Mets on Sunday. Florida is now seven back in the NL East.

Hendrickson eases into bullpen role

Having played in the NBA, Hendrickson was already seen as a versatile athlete. But after beginning the season in the starting rotation, being moved to the bullpen as the long reliever and currently seeing appearances in crucial late-game situations, Hendrickson has shown he's a versatile pitcher, too.

Miller to be among September callups

Starting Monday, Major League rosters can expand up to 40 players at any time in September, and Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said he'd like to add roughly six to eight guys before the end of the season. Likely names include left-hander Andrew Miller and infielders Robert Andino and Dallas McPherson.

Marlins have sights set on series victory

Going into this three-game series, the Marlins knew they had to -- at the very least -- take two if they wanted to have any realistic shot at first place with just one month left in their season. They'll have their shot at a series victory over the Mets on Sunday.

Tensions flare as Pelfrey plunks Ross

With two outs and nobody on, Mets starter Mike Pelfrey hit Marlins center fielder Cody Ross with a 2-2 fastball in the left elbow in the second inning -- the same elbow that cost Ross a few games earlier this year. The bases cleared, but no one was ejected.

Walking the line

Josh Willingham drew a walk with the bases loaded in the ninth inning to give the Marlins a 4-3 victory over the Mets on Saturday night.

Walk to Willingham helps Marlins beat Mets 4-3 (AP)

New York Mets' David Wright (5) rounds third base after hitting a two-run home run in the first inning off of Florida Marlins pitcher Ricky Nolasco of a baseball game on Saturday Aug, 30, 2008 in Miami.

Aaron Heilman issued a bases-loaded walk to Josh Willingham in the ninth inning as the sputtering New York Mets' bullpen failed again in a 4-3 loss to the Florida Marlins on Saturday night. Mike Pelfrey worked 6 2-3 solid innings before handing a 3-2 lead to the bullpen, which has blown 11 of 26 save opportunities since the All-Star break and is second in the NL with 24 blown saves overall.
